I would go with a ceramic ring. They are very hard to scratch and will likely shatter in emergency situations. If the ring was on your finger and your finger was caught on something, it has the best chance of it shattering before ring avulsion happened. You could also probably break it off with a pair of pliers.
We would always recommend removing any jewelry (even a rubber ring) when operating machinery.
